The hardened ones are only hardened on the point end and I have had some breakage in rocky soil. As for lasting they don't last twice as long. It depends on your soil type as to how long they last. I use the regular mostly and when they wear out I take two and lay one on top of the other and tilt the top on and weld them together and reuse them for winter plowing.
