I just checked the 10SI specs over at the www.genesseeproducts.com page. It lists the shaft diameter as .55x (x = my old eyes can't make out the last digit). Since a 5/8 diameter hole would be .625, you shouldn't have any problems with it. Perhaps the pulley wasn't reamed correctly? Check for burrs on the alternator shaft - at the key slot. I just handed the parts man my alternator and asked for a 1.5 pulley for it. Maybe that alternator needs a special pulley. Others here reading this - fill me in on this issue. By the way, 3/4 inch is plenty small. On my M, the driving pulley is 4 inches. Going with a 1.5 inch pulley just about got me the 3:1 ratio I wanted. Even a 1 inch pulley would work well for you.
