It sounds like you are filling the hub too full. Are you making sure to turn the fill hole down after you fill it to let it drain out to the proper level. There are no O rings. Those grooves are just slinger groves to help sling oil off the shaft. If you want to completely get rid of the problem, you can replace the fan assembly with an aftermarket one that has sealed ball bearings. Won't last nearly as long as the original will with proper maintenance.
