Gene, Yes- it looks like I was confusing the issue: I took the nut and lock washer off that retains the drive lugs. I removed the drive lugs, and there is a very long coil spring installed around the perimeter of the lug circle. What I was trying to remove was the circle below that- I thought the impulse was attached to those two pawls that trip the impulse. The pictures of impulse springs on the web site listed below show a flat band-type spring, so I never paid any attention to the spring on the lug wheel. As I noted earlier, only 1 of the two pawls will "spring" back when you move it. The other one just sits there. So now I'm really confused- if the impulse spring IS there, it's O.K., and it moves against the tab from the inner circle... then why does it do absolutely nothing when I rotate the magneto? All you hear is the clicking of the two pawls, there is no motion imparted to the rotor at all. Thanks so much. -Mike
