Dick - You don't say what color the smoke is but if its white you have a coolant leak..blue, you're burning oil..and black, you're running rich. Can be several causes for all of the above. My suspicion is you're rich due to problem with carb. Your idle circuit may be way out of adjustment or plugged and tractor is running on main at idle causing it to get too much fuel and smoke. Have you looked at your plugs?
