49 C farmall quits

Just got the tractor running, the cap and the rotor need replacement on the mag. I have put 5-6 hours on the engine. Now it will run for a short period and quits. Will start right away but quits again. Each period of running is shorter until it just fires and dies. Wait 10 minutes and it repeats the cycle. When it quits it seems as if the mag has been grounded out. I don't have the mag sw hooked up at this time. The tractor doesn't backfire or spit when it stops and I have fuel in the carburator when I open the carb drain so I don't suspect a fuel problem. It appears as if something is breaking down in the mag when its getting warmed up.
