No starter lube is necessary. If your having problems with engagement, check your ring gear for bad spots and repair as necessary. You could also try sharpening the teeth on the starter a little more than factory. This often helps the most. A couple drops of light oil on the armature where the drive runs is a good idea if you've got the starter out.
