This is so true, these engines were not as bad as most of these guys make it sound. One must remember that for most manufacturers this was the pioneering stage of the direct start diesel. Prior to this it was pup start or gas over to diesel, etc. I had a 560 diesel for 16 years from new and put 11,000 hours on it. No it didn,t start as good as the 56, 66 and 86 series, this was a progression of development. You take a good working engine, and put enough electrical behind it and any 460-560 will start down to 15 degrees F unassisted. I had a circulating block heater on mine, it would start at -30 F no problem. Over years I employed numourous employees, one thing most commonly heard was 560 won't start. I always replied,"YOU JUST DON"T KNOW HOW TO START IT." Most were used to 4 cylinder gas Farmalls and could not bring themselves to have patience to use GLOW PLUGS, long enough. I would bet that is the problem at hand with this 460.
