Jared - If memory serves (it's been a couple years now...) the crank gear timing mark was a double punch on a crank gear tooth. I don't recall seeing any another mark on mine. Easy way to verify would be to remove the #1 spark plug, then have an assistant turn the crank while you peer in the #1 plug hole. Stop turning the crank when see the piston crown reach TDC. The crank gear timing mark will be the mark at the mesh point with the cam gear. Punch below for a few pix I took when I had mine apart...
