Take off your valve cover and check the clearances to make sure that the starting valves are opening. You can take the cover off without really removing anything else. Make sure that you are getting fuel too. Does it smoke a lot when you are trying to run it on gas? If it smokes a lot of white smoke then diesel fuel is being injected while on gas. You also need to make sure that the butterflies in the intake are opening when on gas. There are quite a few places to check as you can tell. Hopefully it helps.
