Thermostat ?

While I had the Super C torn down I thought I would replace the thermostat. Removed the retaining ring on the old one but it was stuck and I had to tear it up to get it out.Got a brand spankin new one from Bermuda Ken and it is way smaller than the old one. Wrote him an e-mail and he said this is what IH offers now and that I would need to make a spacer for it. Has anyone done this, and can you give me some advise on how to do it.
PS. put new tires on the Super C yesterday,look great but man can that screw up your restoration budget.
