Steve: Red Dave is, as always, right on the money. There was a little bit of masking done, but not much, and these old tractors came from the factory pretty well painted red. Even the gear shift knob,... how's that for a handful of red paint! Problem was, when generators and starters failed, they were frequently traded for locally available replacements,... which were painted black. And that's why you see some of them that way now. So it depends on how "original" you want to be. Keep on wrenching,... and painting. RedTed/MO.
