That's what the sediment bulb on the bottom of the tank is for-let dirt & water settle out of the fuel. Keep it clean. If you really want to put on an in-line, just get one of the metal ones (not the plastic-sun will kill it quick) that go on cars from your friendly NAPA dealer. I think its a 5/16 line. We ran H's for years w/o fuel filter, but I think old leaded gas didn't "sour" as quickly as the modern non-leaded variety does. I'd bet your problem isn't dirt, its just "sour" gas or gunk in the gas. Do you use any stabilizer in your gas? (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
