Tim, sounds like a broken shifter fork. Remove the shifter and you'll see to chrome rods that the forks ride on. First and reverse gears are at the back of the trans. Remove the bolt that holds the shifter in the detent on the rod. The rod can be pushed back into the differential to remove the fork. Thre is a spring loaded ball that will pop out of the hole in front so keep that covered. Mine broke right in the round part of the fork. Popped out of gear, was'nt hard to get out. ood Luck,Bob
