It looks like it'll fit should I use it?

Somebody gave me a good working gear driven hydraulic pump, coil and distributor set up off a '57 400 or 450. I would like to use it on my '48 O-6 but I remember Guy Fay saying something about the gears were made a little better (harder?) when IH start adding the gear driven hyd pumps in the 50's? Can and should I use this pump without tearing up my gears?, I've fabricated a hyd. three point set up already.
