Sounds like your generator is not charging, or you have a problem with the regulator. As others said, try polarizing the generator. If that does not work, make sure your regulator has a good ground. Paint under the mounting lugs of the regulator can be enough resistance to keep the regulator from working and charging the batter. Put a wire under the generator mounting lug and connect it to the battery ground and see it it starts charging. Also to check if the generator is working, connect a wire to the field (F) terminal and with the tractor running ground that to the battery ground. If the generator is working, it should show charge. If the regulator is properly grounded and you only get charge when you ground the field terminal of the generator, then the regulator is bad. Make sure to NOT ground the ARM or GEN terminal of the generator. You can ruin the generator.
