If your pully's don't line up, Im's sure you are right about the pully not being on far enough. The pully has a step collar the smaller end is machined for the front seal to go over. The seal face should only be about 1/4" from the larger portion of the pully collar when the pully is installed correctly. I would pull the pully again and start over. Hope you haven't already reinstalled the front end. I always remove the woodruff key and dress crank and the inside of the pully collar with fine emery cloth to make sure the surfaces are as smooth as possible. Then heat the pully collar to expand it. You can't heat this to hot or it will damage the front seal. Then a coating of very fine lub and then drive the pully on with a block of wood to cushion the blow of the hammer against the pully. Also leave the front cover loose to make sure the seal doesn't get damaged when you are installing the pully. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
