Had the same thing happen to me years ago on a Corvette. Helped a friend of mine replace the tach drive gear in the distributor. When I put the distributor back on I ran it up to #1 at TDC and dropped the dist in with the first tower CW of the point adjustment window at #1 firing position. No way on God's green earth would it start. After few more attempts I screwed my head on and got to looking. Someone previous to him had replaced the plug wires and had them one tower out of clock. Just file what you learned in the ole noodle and some day it will make you look like a hero to someone having a similar problem.
