So this thing has been in a fire. Some things burnt pretty well others not to bad. I replaced cap and rotor and plug wires but points and condensor looked ok. Pulled carb apart and float had gotten hot enough to melt solder a little. I reformed float adjustment and tractor started and idled for a minute or so but no water in radiator so I shut it down. Now that I knew that the engine was good I rebuilt the carb (new float, needle and seat, cleaned, new main jet, etc.) Then the thing wouldn't run. It would fire a few times on full choke but never stay running. Gas would run out the bottom of carb. That carb was off that tractor at least ten times. Long story short-- that condensor that looked OK was bad. New condensor and it runs like a top. I had checked for spark and there was enough there to light the spark checker but not enough to run the tractor. I am happy to have it running but frustrated that I barked up the wrong tree for so long.
