If the axle moved when you jacked the tractor up you have an inside axle bearing bad. This has been quite a problem around my area when farmers went to radial tires. If that is the problem when you replace the bearings get a matched set of bearings and you will be able to set the preload almost double what the service manual calls for and have longer life. Also the rear end will be loaded with metal which will require extensive cleanup and frequent filter change for the first few hours of operation after repair.
