Had an M around that year, paint underneath was more of a yellow. Have recently also looked at W-9's with yellow paint. I don't think the yellow paint would fade to orange, but some of the cheaper red paint will definitaly fade to orange in a fairly short time.

I would bet your tractor was originally red, and if the dealer painted it before it was sold, I say that is original. (an LA Case with a 4-71 GM is considered "factory" because the dealer installed those engines!) I would go with the red paint.
