Paul, Like you I'm a "youngun" (also 26) and occasionally I can tell one of my questions will get some of the guys rolling their eyes. Keep at it, one mean response doesn't mean we're all bad folks here. As for the "howling" is it real, real loud? My Super M sounds like most everything else I've ever heard with straight gears. If you can, try and listen to an old Ford AA truck or something, the sound is usually real similar. Now you want to get some flame, get into old snowmobiles and post a question on a board with mostly people who ride newer sleds.
