1946 Farmall M manifold conversion

I acquired a 1946 M Farmall that still has the kerosene intake manifold and carburetor installed. This thing drinks gas like pulling the plug out of a full bathtub. It also vapor locks if you shut the engine off when it's hot and won't restart again until it cools down. What is required to convert over to a later model gas intake manifold? Do I need to change the carburetor? Where do I get the parts? Do any other changes need to be made? Will the changes reduce the gas consumption?
