Really? On my power steering, the steering gears are tapered, so that by moving them in and out (with some adjusting screws) you could adjust the lash. The p/s box on my 300U is not the factory unit, though, I suspect it may be off a 460U. The tough part for me was adjusting the rack attached to the p/s cylinder, but that wouldn't be part of a manual steering setup.
