Hey Keith, What you've got there is a radiator that is (or originally was) on a tractor that was designed to run on a dual-fuel system. The Farmall H model had an option during some production years that allowed the farmer to start it using gasoline, and then once the engine got hot enough, switch over to a much less expensive (then anyway) distillate fuel like Kerosene, Corn-a-hol, moonshine, whatever. The shutters on the radiator were closed to allow it to heat up, and a few other minor adjustments on this type of machine were all it took to convert over to the cheap fuel. Only lost a few HP too - pretty efficient. I keep my shutters working too - and I use them in the winter months while plowing snow, etc to help keep the machine a little warmer for the first 1/2 hour or so of working.... You can tell if your H is a dual fuel tractor most obviously by looking for the smaller "gasoline" tank on the right hand side of the tractor - the filler spout should stick up through your hood... Cheers Pete

Elliott said while this
