OK, the serial number should be on the LH side of the machine near the main cylinder drive pulley, sort of behind the bagging platform. The problem is the serial # was decaled on so it's probably faded off. An easy check on age is to look at the drive for the reel--on all models a belt runs from the knife drive pulley down to a jackshaft and then a second belt goes back up to the pulley that actually drives the chain that runs the reel. On the later machines, after 1949 or so, that second belt was replaced by a #45 steel chain. There are a few other little things that can help you "age" the machine. Go for it, they are neat-o machines. Be sure to look for rust-outs, being in the weather is rough on them. Crawl around underneath and check good. Feel free to email me with ?'s. I have a 42R bagger, 52R bagger with Continental engine, and just got a late model 52R tanker with Cub engine. HTH Al
