Bob, manifold torque depends on whether you are tightening fine threaded nuts on the original studs...or going with the IH approved replacement method of using 7/16" coarse grade 8 bolts. I put my after-market manifold on with the second method using plenty of copper based anti-seize. I personally don't put sealer on any manifold gaskets. If they are leaking, I always get new ones. Sealer, in my experience, has provided a way for heat and exhaust pressure to create more leaks than they prevent. I do not recommend using sealer on the bowl gasket of the carb because you can very easily plug up the idle passage. I took a picture of the RTV silicone plug that came out of the carb of my H. There's no way it could have run right before it was parked. In fact, that may be the very reason it was sitting along the fence. The gasket between the carb and manifold is under light vacuum. If both surfaces are clean and flat, there should be no leakage with moderate tension on the studs/bolts. Again, I don't use sealer at this joint. It also makes removal much easier at a later time.
