Don't know if this applies to a 300 but when I replaced the thermostat in my Super C, I also needed a spacer available only from Case/IH. The original was about 1/4" thick at the edge, whereas the new Case was like the ones you see at Napa and maybe only 1/32" thick. I'm talking about the space between the retainer ring and the shoulder. Seems like the spacer and the thermostat together was about $30 at Case. The kid at the parts counter had to go ask an old-timer about the spacer when I told him the thin new style thermostat wasn't going to work. You could probably get the spacer at Case and the thermostat at Napa. But if you don't support the tractor dealers, they won't be around when you need them.
