We have a 300U like you described, and it can raise itself up too. Our 460 row crop has one of those traction control hitches - I don't like it one bit. You will NOT be able to get any downpressure or lift yourself off the ground, that is just the way they were designed. As for the hydraulics being slow, I don't know what to say. I imagine it is the pump or valve spool maybe.
