Do you have generators on both tractors? Make sure you have good ground connections. I would switch both tractors to 12 volts, and have the regulators on the generators rewired for 12 volts at a service shop. Starting should be much easier. I wouldn't switch to an alternator setup, the generator puts out more that enough juice at low rpms to keep that battery charged.
