Might be the shift lever end is worn, not engaging the fork throw far enough, fix by welding end to build it up square, most likely biggest problem will be splines internally on 4th gear, these engage matching spline on trans shaft, either one is expensive, welding back up is very difficult, common failure on older H/M.
