Farmall 400 (Gas) problems

Been waiting for good weather to fire up the 400. She has sat for the winter. Got her going and heard popping sounds from the muffler. Did not effect the running. Drove it out to the end of the driveway and back and after I parked it and shut it down, I noticed engine oil seeping (More like dripping)out from around valve cover and manifold area. Question is, what caused the popping sound (Sticky valves?) Manifold leak? and could the valve cover gasket dried out over the winter to where it would leak that bad? BTW, it didn't pop or leak when I parked it last summer. Thanks for the help.//FB
