Steven, Rollie is right on your book, it is for a Rowcrop Farmall 300, the hydraulics on the 300 Utiity are different. There should be two valves back where you describe, the inner one (nearest the seat) is the regulator/safety/flow control valve. The flow control part won't be there if you don't have power steering. The outer one is your spool valve that runs your cylinders, and yes it can be reversed by reversing the hoses. In addition there should be a check valve which is a little added-on block just below the spool valve. That's what the hoses attach to, and it keeps your hitch from dropping when the engine is not running. It sounds like you at least need a new lever shaft and lever for your spool valve. I've never had one of those apart, so I don't know if it can be fixed without major effort or not. I did have my regulator/safety/flow control valve apart and found that a lot of the parts were available at my Case/IH dealer. My dealer is actually a Kubota and Cub Cadet dealer, but they used to sell IH and Farmall and still handle parts. You should give Bermuda Ken Updike at Carter and Grunewald a call if you don't have good luck with your local dealer. He seems to have a good reputation with many on this board and they apparently stock a lot of NOS parts that many dealers don't. If you pester me with an e-mail in the next couple days I'll e-mail you some parts book pages that show exploded diagrams of the spool valve, safety/regulator/flow control valve and the check valve, along with a picture showing how they should be oriented on your tractor. I'm in the process of re-assembling my P/S unit this evening or I'd send them off now.
