706 is a very good tractor and the price seems OK depending on condition. 6000-7000 hours on the German Diesel is not even broke in IF it has been reasonably maintained. My 806 I estimate has 15000+ hours on it. I am not a fan of the narrow front especially with a loader but you could pretty easily get a wide front. They are pretty plentiful around bone yards, here in TX anyway. As for the shifting, they aren't the best or smoothest shifters but MOST of that is due to linkage wear/abuse/neglect. Keep that oiled and adjusted properly and they shift OK.
