Some reasons: longer cranking time, originality, you get to keep your 6v accessories, (lights), not much cost, why spend the added dollars, the generator while not state of the art will charge just fine it is working right, i have 2 tractors right now with 6 volt that work day in and day out, it seems to be more reliable(I did do one conversion and it even seemed to start faster with 6v I don't why but it did) something you may consider is just a battery with more CCA. Its a proven reliable system, just think how long they lasted from the factory, with these systems the only thing that will hinder it it seems is corrosion, you must watch your connections if it gets hard to start, which isn't a problem if you have the solidered on battery cable ends. Its your call but if it were me, I would make it right the way it is.
