Paul - Here's my thoughts: If you want to be historically correct, keep your tractor 6 volt. So long as the electrical system is maintained in good condition and the motor is keep well tuned, 6 volts will continue to work fine for you. However if you plan only to use the tractor for work and desire maximum reliability and minimum maintenance (both time and $$$), and don't care about historical "correctness", a 12 volt alternator conversion is the way to go. The money you spend now on a conversion will be earned back in a year or two. Also with 12 volts you have flexibility to swap batteries with your car, truck, boat, etc. in an emergency - something you can't do with a 6 volt system. Bottom line - there is no right or wrong answer. It's the owner's choice....
