There is a process called "pinning" that can be used. It involves drilling and tapping a hole at one end of the crack and installling a set screw "pin". Then you drill and tap a hole next to that "pin" only you overlap the first hole. This way part of the threads are in the first "pin". You continue this until the entire crack is "pinned". Never used it myself, but one of the local club members swears by this method.
