I grew up with a 350 and we used the TA ab out half the time while plowing wit 3-16's. Seems the speed and power was tright most of the time with ta engaged, usually in 3rd or 4th. I don't remember dad having to replacethe TA, at least not for the 5 or 6 years I was home. The main thing is do not ease the lever ahead when going into high range. Squeeze the handle and let it go. The TA clutch will not take slipping under load. Also, the dealer told dad he had to replace the Hy-tran every year or two, regardless of hours used. Hy-tran will absorb water, and when it gets contaminated it is hard on the TA. If used right and kept adjusted, they will run or a long time.
