oil leak through crack of block in 460 IH

The block on my 460 gas IH has a hairline crack in block at the lower left front of engine. I would suppose that if it ran all day it might lose
a half cup of oil. Its annoying and I would like to fix it. Its in a place where it could be ground out into a "V" and perhaps welded. Does this sound like the best solution??

Has anyone encountered a problem similiar to this?
Any advice would be appreciated.
