the Rev fool ya any. Y'know how when a job hits a rough spot, things not going just the way the manual says it would, and you're just about to run out of native intelligence for ways around the diffugilty? Well that's where George would drop just a pearl of wisdom, or even just a good idea. I may have been turnin' the wrenches, but the Rev himself was able to mechanic some, too, so it was a joint effort all the way. As for what it turned out to be, I think we may have had two problems going at once. I noticed right off that the fingers on the clutch were at all different distances from the face of the throwout bearing. The other was that, after pulling out the universal and unhooking the odds and ends, the shaft, clutch, and disc failed to come out "as a unit" the way all the books say they ought to. A lot of massaging before the disc would even move, so it may have been rusted to the flywheel, as well. Never did get them down. (Any thoughts on why that may have been would be welcome) The disc looked good, though, and was free so we bolted things back up. Possible that the clutch cover wasn't bolted down properly in the first place, as the fingers were better but still not right. (Amazing, ain't it, how little adjustment those things take!) The jam nut was loose on one of the bolts, and the bolt itself was spinning, less than fingertight. Since we couldn't get the whole assembly to drop, we adjusted the fingers to the face of the throwout bearing. Put her all bcak together, one more adjustment on the free throw, and she's wheeling just fine. And apart from wrenching, I can't say enough about Mr. & Mrs. Rev and their hospitality, though, despite his generous offer to share, rev IS a tad protective of his whipped cream! To letchya know the sort of fellow he is, though, he has been kind enough (Talers take note) NOT to mention that all the while we were in the shed wrenchin, my truck was sittin' outside running the battery flat ( a little ovrsight on my part). Needed a jump before I could get started home. A long day, but no more than I'd set aside, and for those of us that love these machines and working on them, you'll know what I mean by saying that it certainly was satisfying to solve a problem, and especially for a guy that's right at the head of the list of nice folks. Too long again! Nytol. Scotty

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights. The garden was already sprouting when we hooked up the mid-mount shovel cultivators to the Pony. The seed bed was soft enough that the rear end would spin and slowly work its way to the downhill side of the gardens slight incline. From this, we learned our lesson sinc
