Also, the block could be full of crud. Take the side plate off & look. (Carefull-side plates are sometimes spendy & hard to find.) Or, if you suspect crud in the block, lotsa times you can get enough out to make it cool by flushing through rad hose connections or connecting a garden hose to the drain plug in the block & "reverse" flushing the block. Be sure the the hoses on the rad are disconnected & you've plugged both the inlets. I brazed a metal valve core on to a short chunk of pipe that I use to introduce a little air into the mix as water is flowing through the block. (BTW-plan on gettin wet, ifn ya try this.) I've even used draino to put into the water mix in the block & left it set for a couple of hours on really cruddy engines (both IH & Case blocks). We live in an area where REALLY HARD water is common & cruddy blocks are also common. (Could there be some relationship here? Naaaaa-its probably just a coincidence.) (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
