Finally dropped the steering gear arm off today after work. The system had some water in at one time. I believe it came in through the plug on top as the top bearing was all rusted and had debris in it. The only slop I can find is in the fit of the shaft and the key for the flat steering worm gear. Maybe one degree of rotation here. The worm gears look great! Just a shiney spot in the contact area. Hard to believe that slight amount of slop caused 3/4 turn of slop at the steering wheel. Did I miss something here or has someone else been through the same thing?
