Hi Jeff,
The seals can be renewed without removing the shaft. They slip over the end of the shaft and you can slide them into position. The front one faces in towards the front cover and the back one faces towards the pump. It seems to me like there is a special installation tool, go to an injection shop and they will have the seals and the tool, and they can answer any questions you have. Good luck,
