The suggestion is not to bore the block to accept a larger sleeve, but to resleeve the engine so you can return the block to it's original strength. This resleeve is then bored so that the standard dimension sleeve can be inserted into the block. The problem that will be faced with placing new sleeves into the cracked block (without repair) is that the expansion and contraction of the water jacket will more than likely crack the cylinder sleeve and allow water to seep into the crankcase. the repair sleeve will prevent this. Also remember that the crack can get larger by the expansion and contraction of the metal, so limiting its movement with a repair sleeve will also limit the crack's ability to get larger. I have tried to cut corners in the pas, but I don't do it anymore, because it always cost me twice the money in the end.
