I got my crank off today and washed her off in the parts washer.... What I noticed concerns me. First of all, from what I can tell the crank is ground .020" under (I looked at the back of the bearings as suggested). Most importantly though...on the front main bearing, there are "hair like" looking cracks (2 at 180 degrees from each other). I say hair like because their shape reminds me of a hair on a counter or something. I can feel them with my nail. So what now ? could they be just cracks in the finish ? Like I said in previous postings... the crank had a ton of play in it, I'm fearing that they might be stress cracks. This tractor is only used for mowing the lawn and doesn't see much use. Because it's the front journal or bearing surface, do you guys think I can get away with it ??? As always, thanks for your advice.
