My short answer is;they whistle because the intake of air at a high volume creates low pressure right in front of the compressor wheel.If the compressor wheel does not fit into the compressor housing perfectly,the resulting turbulence causes the whistle in that gap.Each turbo has it's own "character" some fit close internally and don't whine or whistle-others whistle "Dixie!" Did you know that all RAM trucks have a "silencer ring" (metal baffle) in all their turbo intakes? BillJ
