My first thought since you were working on a hydraulic problem... is it the engine or maybe the hydraulic system? Is this a live pump, so maybe it killed the engine at idle, and may be causing the resistance to turning? Just thought I'd mention it; sometimes the dumbest questions can lead to the right answers!
