Sam: I believe the newer tractors have more efficient transmissions, but greater than that is the improvment in tires. Even in fifties and sixties new tractor tires we were buying were quite crappy by todays standards. The radial tire has made huge improvments. My Super A has radials with 23 degree tread bars. that is what pulled theload at ex. We had a lot of fun teasing the horse and ox pullers. They do well to pull twice their own weight. Very rarely do you see 2.1 to 2.3. My Super A weighing aprox 2300 lbs. was probably very close to 3 time its own weight. The other answer is no to engine clubs.
