One word on grease and bearings, you do not need much! Modern bearings that are sealed are not packed in grease, nor should they be. All we are looking for is a very thin coat on them, which may not be visable to the eye. This of course is not true when we are using the grease as a mechanism to keep out dirt or water, such as a spindle, but in my opinion you would have been better off leaving the seal on it.
