It should not be very difficult to correct this problem. Think of your mag problem as a modern distributor with brushes. The rotor button (disk) should not be groved, causing the brushes to bounce up over the pointer. Brush holders in cap should not be broken and brushes should be of ample length.
The rotor button disk can be replaced, held on by three phenolic pins , just drive out. Pin can be coated with shellac when reinstalling. All these parts are available new $$$$$$$ but Buy all the junk mags you find for parts.
